STUDY RECOMMENDATIONS

We understand that tutoring isn’t always an option for every family. That’s why we’ve put together a list of free or low-cost resources to help your student succeed—no matter their budget.

Start with the official guides (linked below). These are always my first recommendation.

If your student is preparing for a standardized test and wants a reliable self-guided method, follow these steps:

  1. Read through all the content in the official guide to get familiar with the format and concepts.
  2. Choose at least 10 practice problems from each section. Work through them without any help, and make sure to time yourself.
  3. Check your answers only after completing the set. Use the official answer key and review any mistakes.
  4. Repeat the process until you feel confident. If you’re stuck, search for YouTube tutorials or other instructional resources to help clarify tricky topics.
  5. Once you’re comfortable with all the material in a section, take a timed practice test of that section only.
  6. Grade your test using the answer key, then focus on reviewing any areas that still need improvement.
  7. Repeat this process until you’re satisfied with your score and feel confident with the material.

FREE SAT Practice:

College Board has five free printable practice exams and a free digital practice exam. I recommend that students start with the digital practice exam (complete it unaided and time yourself), then use it as a reference point to begin studying.

FREE ACT Practice:

You can get a free practice test and guide by creating an account on the ACT website. They also have a series of short gamified quizzes available. These quizzes have 5-10 questions and are great warm ups or quick reviews.
