Study Recommendations (ALL exams):
The best study plan i recommend to all my students is:
- Carefully go over your class notes and any review information provided by your AP teacher.
- Watch the topic videos on AP Classroom. These are available for every topic within a unit. It will be too time consuming to watch them all right before May, but it’s definitely worth going back to the ones you need some reinforcement on. Your unit Progress checks are a great resource for this. These are UNGRADED diagnostics that your teacher may assign. (you can always ask them to assign one to you if they don’t).
- For a comprehensive review, College Board will always offer a big live streamed review for every exam where a veteran teacher will summarize all the exam information per unit. These will take you a couple hours to watch, but are definitely worth it. just look up: [Name of your AP exam] [year] on youtube and it will pop up.
AP Biology Study Recommendations:
I have been teaching and tutoring for AP Biology for around ten years. I really love the BUNDLE AP Biology Full Year Curriculum Review/Learning Guides for Each Unit by Science of Curiosity. I did NOT create this resource, but I have used it in every single one of my classes and with all my review students. I find it immensely helpful and absolutely worth the investment.
Another amazing review resource for AP Biology are Mr. Anderson’s YouTube videos on his channel: Bozeman Science. I find this playlist (AP Biology Video Essentials) particularly helpful.
AP Environmental Science Study Recommendations:
Even though I have only been teaching APES for five years, it is one of my favorite AP courses to teach. The content and activities on it are just so fun! I may or may not be slightly obsessed with plate tectonics… The instructions part is also lighter, freeing up time to really explore each topic and do a lot of Labs and activities.
For APES I follow a similar format than AP Bio. I usually have my students prepare for lessons by watching the Mr. Smeedes’ videos and completing Mrs. Coats’ guided notes. I strongly recommend this for teachers and students. (The videos linked are of Unit 1, you can find the other 8 units on Mr. Smeedes’ Channel). I always recommend my tutoring students to go though Mr. Smeedes’ amazing videos as a review if they are not assigned as part of their coursework. He also has many resources (some free and some paid) listed on his website.
Science of Curiosity also has a study guide for APES. It is equally great as the AP Bio one! APES /AP Environmental Science FULL YEAR Review & Learning Guides Plus Resources for Each Unit. I did NOT create this resource, but I have used it in every single one of my classes and with all my tutoring students students. I find it immensely helpful and absolutely worth the investment.
